One trend; three looks

The 1970s produced a whole range of fashion trends that have been reworked and remodelled many times since. From flares to maxi dresses, this decade was particularly noteworthy in fashion’s long and much-loved history. Much of the 1970s is being brought bang up to date by a whole host of major designers including Marc Jacobs, Etro and House of Holland. High street chains are doing their best to emulate the best bits and become inspired by the world’s fashion greats.

There is one key angle that’s getting a lot of coverage, probably because it is the most wearable and most chic. The vintage/seventies street style look is definitely one you will want to try. Here are three key looks that form the basis of this stylish, yet simple trend.

Look one: flats + dresses

This look from Warehouse’s Harlem Chic collection is truly divine. The stylists have gone for a pair of flat, brown leather loafers with gold buckles and teamed them with a pair of navy blue tights. Along with this is a cropped brown faux-fur jacket with three-quarter length sleeves and a black, across-the-body black satchel. The centrepiece of the outfit is a floral dress in navy with a warm orange flower pattern. The dress is mid-thigh and has a tie collar and slightly ruched waist. There are no other accessories as this outfit says it all. Warehouse has plenty of similar statement dresses available, just search for Warehouse dresses UK.

Look two: platforms + skirts

Platforms were a major feature of the 1970s and ran through many of the decade’s trends. A pair of brown leather platform loafers or slouchy brown suede boots are essential and kick off look number two. Now add an over-the-knee pleated skirt that is belted at the waist with a skinny belt and a jazzy, asymmetric pattered shirt and an oversized floppy hat and gold hoop earrings. Finish it all off with a suede Afghan coat lined with shearling.

Look three: blouse and flares

This look is so 1970s and is incredibly easy to wear. A pair of high-waist wide-leg flare jeans in a mid-wash denim are combined with a coloured, loose fitting blouse with v-neck preferably in a bright colour such as red, orange or mustard yellow. Add a pair of platform wide-strap sandals, a chunky arm cuff, a chain-link across-the-body bag with fringing and some super big Farrah Fawcett curls and this look is done and dusted.
